Crafted from premium-grade oak, the Watts Seat echoes the elegant lines of the original design by Mary Seaton Watts, founder of Compton Pottery. This distinctive seat, which was shortlisted for RHS Product of the Year in 2011, features charming heart-shaped cut outs on the backrest.
Every purchase supports the Watts Gallery charity.

We complete the vast majority of UK deliveries in-house using our own vehicle fleet and staff. All our deliveries include a white glove service, we will always place your outdoor furniture where you want it. To minimise our impact on the environment, we don’t use packaging or plastic wrapping and instead our pieces are carefully wrapped in furniture blankets.
During busy periods or for small items, we may occasionally use a third-party carrier to make sure your delivery is fulfilled in a timely manner.
Once payment has been completed we will be in touch to give you an expected delivery date. A week before we are due to deliver we will be in touch to confirm a convenient day and estimated time.
Our standard UK mainland delivery rate starts at £84 for any order under £4,000. For orders over £4,000, delivery starts at £168, plus £48 for each additional item up to a maximum of £408. For orders outside of the UK mainland please contact us directly to discuss delivery either by phone 01420 58 84 44 or by email info@gazeburvill.com.
Customers are welcome to collect their orders from our workshop near Alton, Hampshire. For in-stock items please allow 2-4 weeks to ensure that the items you have ordered have been readied for collection. Collection times for made to order items may vary, please contact our sales team for more information.
CAN THE Outdoor FURNITURE BE LEFT OUTSIDE ALL YEAR?
Yes, our outdoor furniture is fine to be left outside all year. If you have any concern about leaving it outside during the winter, we are able to make covers which will help to protect it against the elements. Additionally, we offer an aftercare service which helps to keep your outdoor furniture in the best condition.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY outdoor FURNITURE?

WHERE IS YOUR outdoor FURNITURE MADE?
All our outdoor furniture is made by skilled craftsmen at our workshop at Lodge Farm near Alton, Hampshire.
DOES THE outdoor FURNITURE HAVE A WARRANTY?
All Gaze Burvill outdoor furniture comes with a 10 year warranty. Our aftercare service can help to extend the lifetime of a piece. This warranty does not apply to damage resulting from improper maintenance, misuse, negligence, accidents, abuse or exposure to extreme climatic conditions.

All items are sold as seen and non-refundable, any returns will be offset against a credit towards new furniture which needs to be redeemed within 7 days.

All items are available on a ‘first come first served’ basis.

We cannot reserve any pieces before or during the sale.

Priority will be given to those purchasing in person at Lodge Farm. Phone lines will open at 1.30pm on Saturday 15 October and close at 4pm for phone sales.

Sale items to be paid for in full at the point of sale. We will accept a 50% deposit on A La Carte Kitchens and large dining sets.

All items to be either collected or delivered by Friday 28 October unless order includes made to order pieces in which case the deadline will be Thursday 15 December.

Delivery is extra and must be paid for at the time of purchase. Our standard delivery charges apply:

The Story of the Watts Seat
The Watts Outdoor Seat was originally commissioned for the gardens of the Watts Gallery in Surrey. It draws its lines from a terracotta seat designed by Mary Seaton Watts (1849 – 1938), founder of Compton Pottery.
In 1886 Mary married George Frederic Watts (1817 – 1904), a renowned Victorian painter and sculptor who is often referred to as ‘England’s Michelangelo’. After they wed, they commissioned Arts and Crafts architect Sir Ernest George to build their home ‘Limnerslease’ in Compton.
Mary, formally a fine artist, began to focus on design and architecture and founded Compton pottery and the Compton Potters’ Arts Guild to promote traditional handicrafts among the local community. Their products were sold through fashionable retailers such as Liberty&Co on Regent Street, and even though Liberty held a policy that everything should be sold under the Liberty brand, they allowed Compton ware to be marked with its own stamp.
The Watts Gallery currently houses a collection of over 200 Compton pottery pieces and the original pottery building is now a tea shop for visitors.
The Story of the Watts Seat
The Watts Chapel, also at the Artist’s Village in Compton, was Mary’s artistic vision. It is built in brick with an extraordinary interior decorated in beautiful coloured gesso relief and decorative terracotta clay tiles, crafted by the potters and local residents whom Mary taught at evening classes.
A unique masterpiece, the building of the Watts Chapel was financed by G F Watts painting commissioned portraits. G F and Mary Watts both rest in Watts Cemetery, as do many other people who have played a role in the Artists’ Village over the years. It remains a working village parish chapel, having been given to the people of Compton by the Watts’.
The Watts Gallery, Chapel and Artist’s Village are a fascinating visit and you can find many of Gaze Burvill’s Watts Seats dotted about the estate. They provide perfect spots to sit and admire the work of both artists and that of their talented community which they founded.
