About Meon

Introducing Meon

Responsible contemporary designs, craftsman-made to endure.

Meon is a collection of furniture that celebrates the warm, natural beauty of wood – versatile chairs and tables for living well. It is for home, library or cafe – anywhere you want to sit comfortably.

Our philosophy is simple: good design should be beautiful, kind to the planet and last for years and years.

Our Story

Meon furniture is a new collection from Gaze Burvill, a Hampshire-based company established in 1993 and known for high-quality oak outdoor furniture and kitchens. The “Meon” name comes from the nearby river valley. Gaze Burvill’s experience designing for challenging weather conditions, combined with the traditional Windsor chairmaking expertise gained from acquiring Sitting Firm Chairmakers in 2020, informs Meon’s contemporary designs. In 2024, Gaze Burvill became a B Corp, reflecting our commitment to high environmental and governance standards. The expanding Meon collection is made by a skilled team in Hampshire, upholding the company’s dedication to quality, craftsmanship, and good design.

Our Environmental Ethos

Meon, a B Corp, is deeply committed to sustainability, weaving it into every aspect of our work. We use only certified and responsibly sourced timber from British woodlands, supporting ethical forestry practices to preserve natural resources. Combining traditional craftsmanship with modern technology, we minimise their environmental impact while creating beautiful, functional, and responsibly made furniture.

The Art Of Creation: In The Hands Of Experts

Meon furniture creation begins with a collaborative design phase between designers and craftspeople, involving extensive prototyping and refinement. The manufacturing process blends advanced technology, like CNC precision cutting, with the magic of traditional skills such as steam-bending wood for curved components. This specialised process, including kiln-drying and accounting for spring-back, preserves the wood’s strength and flexibility. Sanding and oiling complete the process, resulting in beautiful, comfortable, structurally sound, and durable furniture. Meon’s dedication to these time-intensive and expert techniques sets them apart.

Originality in Design

Working in solid wood gives each piece unique tactile authenticity, but requires deep understanding of the material, its grain, and cuts—knowledge from 30+ years of experience and centuries-old know-how.  Steam-bending, one example of specialised chairmaking skills, yields graceful, strong curves in expert hands, creating comfortable, beautiful chairs.
